The Midweek Treble, Tuesday 6 March

The midweek treble is 3 homes, 1 each from the Championship, League 1 and League 2. A stake of 1 unit would return 3.37 so a £10 bet would put £33.70 in your pocket.

Reading v Portsmouth: home win.  3rd placed Reading have won 6 consecutive matches.  23rd placed Portsmouth have won only 1 of their last 10 and have been beaten 10 times away from home this season.

Charlton v Colchester: home win.  League 1 leaders Charlton are unbeaten in 11 league games and have conceded just 4 goals in those matches.  Charlton are unbeaten at home.  11th placed Colchester have earned 34 points less than the hosts and have been beaten away to each opponent they have met from the top 8.

Swindon v Dagenham: home win.  Top of the table Swindon lost at Oxford at the weekend but won their previous 7 games and have won 11 straight at home.  Dagenham lie in 22nd place and are unbeaten in 3 but these games were against fellow strugglers in the bottom 6.  Dagenham have lost 10 away matches this season and Swindon should add to that tonight.

Premier League betting preview: Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United

Spurs have not beaten United for 26 games in all competitions, a dismal run stretching back 11 years. Spurs are having a great season but are a little inconsistent of late losing 2 of their last 5. Their last 3 games saw them play out a stalemate at Anfield then put 5 past Newcastle before conceding 5 last weekend at Arsenal. However, Spurs have been strong at home this season, unbeaten in 12 since losing 5-1 to Manchester City back in August. United's away form has been excellent in winning 9 of 13 with a solitary loss at Newcastle. United will probably welcome Wayne Rooney back after a throat infection whilst Spurs will be without the suspended Scott Parker. Given their record against Spurs, United look outstanding value at 8/5 to win. It's 15/8 for the Spurs win. 3 of the last 4 meetings between the sides at White Hart Lane have ended in a draw, which merits attention at 9/4.

Both Teams Score - a Spurs v United game screams goals yet 2 of the last 3 fixtures between these sides at White Hart Lane have ended goalless. This is worth bearing in mind but a 0-0 repeat seems unlikely on current form. Spurs have scored in every home game this season, United have failed to score only once in all 26 Premier League games. United have conceded 8 in their last 4 away from home with both sides scoring in 3 of those. It's 8/13 that both teams score.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals - games at White Hart Lane this season average 3 goals. United's away games average 2.8 goals. The last 10 fixtures between the sides have averaged 2.7 goals per game. There is 4/5 available for over 2.5 goals. The unders are being offered at 21/20. It's worth noting that fixtures between the Premier League's current top 4 this season are averaging 5 goals per game. You can get 2/1 for over 3.5 goals and 5/1 for over 4.5 goals.

Goalscorers - Javier Hernandez has scored the first goal in 6 matches this season and he is 7/1 to do so again. You would want to check the line-ups on Sunday before backing him. Emmanuel Adebayor looks overpriced at Coral who offer 11/5 he scores anytime. If Rooney is fit he can be backed at 7/5 to score anytime. Of the outsiders, Assou-Ekotto can hit a ball and he's available at 18/1 to score anytime.

Picks: Both Teams Score, Over 2.5 Goals

Premier League betting preview: Manchester United v Liverpool

United have won 7 of the last 8 fixtures between the sides at Old Trafford and have won 9 of their 12 home games in the Premier League this season. Liverpool's away form is inconsistent, winning 6 and losing 5 out of 12. Although Liverpool won the recent FA cup game against United at Anfield it's fair to say United looked the better side for the majority of the game, and United also showed good form recently at rivals Chelsea and Arsenal. United can be backed as big as 9/10 to win this game, which looks too good to turn down. It's 7/2 the Liverpool win and 13/5 the draw.

Both Teams Score - the last time United failed to score at home in the Premier League was 42 games ago against Aston Villa in December 2009. Liverpool have only scored 14 away from Anfield this season but United have been vulnerable in defence this season with De Gea suspect and injuries to key defenders. It is 11 games in all competitions since United kept a clean sheet against anyone placed higher than Liverpool in 7th (Spurs on 22 August). Liverpool have scored in 8 of the last 9 against United. It is 5/6 that both teams score.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - the last 4 Premier League meetings between the sides at Old Trafford have seen over 2.5 goals. There have been 49 goals scored in 12 Premier League games at Old Trafford this season. 19/20 is available for either side of the under/over 2.5 goals mark. You might be tempted by the 9/4 for over 3.5 goals.

Anytime goalscorer - Fergie suggested after the Chelsea game that Javier Hernandez may get some more game time during the rest of the season. Hernandez is 17/10 to score anytime and has scored in the last 2 Premier League games between the sides. 4/1 Dirk Kuyt has 4 in 3 in all competitions v United and 7/2 Steven Gerrard has 4 in his last 5 Premier League games v United.

Picks: United win, Both Teams Score, Over 2.5 goals.

Super Sunday betting preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

Arsenal have won 7 of 10 at home in the Premier League this season but have faced a succession of teams from the bottom half of the league, which may also explain why their much criticised defence has managed to concede only 6 at the Emirates. Liverpool in 7th are the highest placed side to have visited the Emirates and ran out comfortable 2-0 winners. United have conceded only 6 in 10 on their Premier League travels but 3 came in their last away game at Newcastle and, prior to last week's clean sheet against a poor Bolton side, they had conceded 8 in 3 in all competitions. United have also had a fairly easy run on their travels in the Premier League, with the Newcastle drubbing the only occasion they have faced a side from the top 6 away. Arsenal have only failed to score once at home, United only once away. It's 4/6 that both teams score.

Only 3 of Arsenal's 10 home games have seen over 2.5 goals, it's 4 of 10 for United's away fixtures. The bookies are hovering around the evens mark either way for under/over 2.5 goals with over the slight favourite at around 4/5.

Both sides have shown vulnerability of late and it's tough to make a strong case for either side to win. Arsenal have won 3 of the last 5 Premier League games between the sides at the Emirates and are 15/8 to win this one. United are 13/8 with the draw a tempting 12/5. A correct score of 1-1 also looks a real possibility and is 6/1.

Arsenal are heavily reliant on Robin Van Persie's goals and United need Wayne Rooney on form to make them tick. Van Persie offers excellent value at 11/8 to score anytime. Rooney is 7/5 and Welbeck merits attention at 2/1. Don't expect Henry or Scholes to make an impact.

Picks: both teams score at 4/6, Van Persie anytime at 11/8.

Super Sunday betting preview: Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur

City will again be without the key figures of Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure. For Spurs Ledley King is likely to miss out with a hamstring injury and Emanuel Adebayor cannot play against his parent club. Spurs haven't won any of the last 3 against City but prior to that won an incredible 10 of 11, including 6 away at City. David Silva (11/4 to score anytime) returned from injury on Monday night at Wigan and City will hope he can provide the spark missing from City's last home game, the 1-0 Carling Cup defeat to Liverpool.

De Jong and Barry will likely anchor the City midfield with Milner possibly taking a position on the right to help Zabaleta/Richards combat the threat of Gareth Bale (7/2 to score anytime) down the Spurs left. Scott Parker gives some substance to the Spurs midfield that was clearly lacking when they lost this reverse fixture 5-1 at White Hart Lane last August. Parker's addition and Yaya's absence makes this match a more finely balanced proposition but Silva's return and the recent form of Aguero (11/8 to score anytime) presents a formidable challenge to the Spurs rearguard, which has kept only 2 clean sheets away from home. It is worth noting that Dzeko (15/8 to score anytime) scored for the first time since early 2 November on Monday night and he tends to score in bunches, inlcuding 4 at Spurs when he started the season with 6 goals in 3 games. City have won 15 straight at home in the Premier League and are priced at a hard to ignore 10/11 to win this. Spurs are 7/2 and the draw is 13/5.

City have conceded only 4 Premier League goals at the Etihad this season but Spurs have scored in 9 successive away games since opening their campaign with a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford. City have scored at home in 22 successive league games. 8/10 of City's home games this season have seen over 2.5 goals, 7/10 of Tottenham's away games have also seen over 2.5 goals. However, this fixture has seen 1-0 victories for either side in the past 2 seasons in what have effectively been deciders to qualify for the Champions League. It's 8/11 for over 2.5 goals and 4/6 that both teams score. It is also worth noting that 5 of City's last 8 games in all competitions have seen under 2.5 goals, with the figure rising to 7 out of 8 for Spurs. The 11/10 available for under 2.5 goals is tempting given the importance of this game. Spurs could find themselves within 2 points of City or as far off as 8.

Picks: City win at 10/11, under 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Manchester City v Liverpool: Betting preview

City come into this game off the back of New Year's Day's shock defeat at Sunderland. Liverpool have had a couple of extra days rest since they won 3-1 at home to Newcastle last Friday. City will probably recall Richards, Clichy, Milner, Silva, Aguero and Balotelli to the starting line-up as they will need their best XI to take anything against a strong Liverpool side likely to feature Gerrard and Suarez. The 2 sides drew 1-1 at Anfield recently in an excellent, uncompromising encounter that saw City's 10 men hold on thanks to Joe Hart's keeping. City won this fixture 3-0 last season but Liverpool are otherwise unbeaten since 2005 at the Etihad. Liverpool haven't lost against any of last season's top 4 in 5 fixtures this season. City have won 9/9 at home in the Premier League and were unbeaten in 28 matches there in 2011. City last lost successive games in October 2010. This is a tough game to call, with the draw possibly the best bet at 13/5. City can be backed at 10/11, which is good given their home record. Liverpool are 7/2.

Both Teams Score - City have scored 28 and conceded 4 in 9 home games this season but resilient Liverpool have conceded just 7 in 9 away. City have 4 clean sheets from their last 6 matches and Liverpool have managed only 10 goals in 9 away from Anfield. In what is likely to be a tough, tight match it could be that both teams do not score, which is available at 11/10.

Over/Under 2.5 goals - City have been less rampant of late, failing to score in their last 2 games, and have failed to score more than 1 in a game 7 times in their last 10. 7 of Liverpool's 9 away games have seen under 2.5 goals. 5 of the last 7 between these sides at the Etihad have seen under 2.5 goals. Most firms are offering around 10/11 under 2.5 and 10/11 over 2.5 goals.

Total Bookings Points - Andre Marriner takes charge of the game and is fond of a card, dishing out 33 yellows and a red in 8 Premier League games this season. The Anfield fixture saw 6 yellows and a red and I expect a similar figure in this game. A yellow is worth 10 points and a red 25. It's 35 points when 2 yellows for a player leads to an automatic red (as with Balotelli at Anfield). 13/10 is available for over 50 points with Blue Square and 888Sport.

Picks: 2 x singles: Under 2.5 goals and Over 50 Bookings Points.

Chelsea v Manchester City: Betting preview

Chelsea have shown some inconsistent form this season. They have won their last 2 Premier League games by 3-0, a scoreline they repeated against Valencia in the Champions League last Tuesday. But they have also lost 3 of their last 6, and have been beaten 3 times at home this season. City do not have a good record at Stamford Bridge, winning just once in their last 9 visits, but City have been rewriting records all season and bring a better team in better form than on any of those 9 visits. City match up well physically against Chelsea and should cause lots of problems for Chelsea on the counter. I prefer the 2/1 for a City win than 6/4 Chelsea.

Both Teams Score - this looks the nap bet for this match. Chelsea have scored in every home Premier League game this season, City have not failed to score in any domestic fixture. Both teams have scored in 6 of 7 of Chelsea's home games, and in City's last 7 Premier League games. It's 4/6 both teams score.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - Chelsea have scored 19 in 7 home games, City 24 in 7 away. Only 5 of the combined 28 league games these sides have played in this season have seen under 2.5 goals. 6/7 is available at Betfair for over 2.5 goals.

Under/Over 3.5 goals - Games between last season's top 4 average over 7 goals per game this season, with 4 the least scored. Chelsea's home games and City's away games both average over 4 goals per match. 2 of the last 4 games between these sides at the Bridge have seen 6 goals scored, a 6-0 win for Chelsea and a 4-2 win for City. William Hill and Coral both offer 2/1 for over 3.5 goals.

Anytime goalscorer - It's a toss up between Dzeko and Balotelli to partner City's 11 goal leading scorer, Sergio Aguero, in attack. Dzeko has started the last 3 and may take a rest. Aguero will start and he scored twice on his last appearance v Chelsea when playing for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Coral offer 2/1 Aguero scores on Monday.

Picks: 3 x singles: both teams score, over 2.5 goals, over 3.5 goals.

Premier League live games 3 Dec: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you fancy a bet on Saturday's live games:

Newcastle v Chelsea - 4th plays 5th at the newly named Sports Direct Arena (they say it won't catch on) and either would go 3rd with a win, at least until Spurs play Bolton later on Saturday. Newcastle have lost only to Manchester City this season and managed a draw at Manchester United last time out. Chelsea's recent form is not good with 3 defeats in 6 but they are unbeaten at Newcastle since 2006. Newcastle are available at 29/10 with Bwin and the draw also looks good value at 13/5 with 32Red. Chelsea are 11/10.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - Newcastle's home games average 2.5 goals, Chelsea's away games also average 2.5 goals and the last 6 games Premier League games between these sides at Newcastle have all seen less than 2.5 goals. 15/16 is available at Betfair for under 2.5 goals.

Both teams score - 10 of Newcastle's last 11 games in all competitions have seen both teams score. Newcastle have not failed to score at home and Chelsea have scored in 8 of 10 away games this season in all competitions. 4/5 is available that both teams score.

Correct score - if you think both teams will score and that the match will see under 2.5 goals you'll like the 6/1 available that the game finishes 1-1.

Anytime goalscorer - Demba Ba has 9 goals this season and looks good value at 12/5 with Unibet but keep in mind that only 1 of his 9 goals have been scored at home.

Picks: I like the look of the 1-1 draw and all the bets that go with that but I am playing it safe and doing just 1 single bet that both teams score.

Premier League live games 3 Dec: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you fancy a bet on Saturday's live games:

Aston Villa v Manchester United - the last time Villa beat United at Villa Park was the 3-1 victory in 1995 that led Alan Hansen to declare in the general direction of Alex Ferguson that "you win nothing with kids". United won the double that season and plenty since, including 9 of the subsequent 15 league fixtures between these sides at Villa Park, although the last 3 have ended in a draw. Villa have lost 1 of 6 home games this season, United are unbeaten away. United's second string suffered a humiliating defeat at home to Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup on Wednesday but Ferguson will send out a far superior side this Saturday, and will look to add to 2 successive 1-0 victories away from home in the Premier League. 8/11 is available for a United win but recent history says the draw at 14/5 with Stan James may offer better value.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - 7 of United's last 8 Premier League matches have seen less than 2.5 goals. Villla have 10 goals in 6 home games, United have conceded only 3 away. United have managed just the 1 goal in 4 successive away games. Going all the way back to Hansen's comment again, 12 of the last 15 league matches between these sides at Villa Park have seen less than 2.5 goals. Form and history suggest a low-scoring game and 28/29 is available at Betfair for under 2.5 goals.

1st Goalscorer - I tend to prefer betting on anytime goalscorers but history and form says there might be only 1 goal in this. I like the 5/1 available at Bwin for Javier Hernandez to score first. Hernandez has 6 goals this season, 5 of them have been the first goal.

Picks: under 2.5 goals, Hernandez first goalscorer.

Premier League live games 27 Nov: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you want to have a bet on Sunday's live games:

Liverpool v Manchester City - City have dropped only 2 points in the Premier League this season but head to Anfield on the back of a loss to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday. Following their only other defeat this season, also in the Champions League, City reeled off 9 straight wins scoring 33 goals in the process, so they have demonstrated an ability to recover from disappointment. Liverpool are currently unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions and are unbeaten at Anfield this season. City have not won in 8 trips to Anfield, and lost 3-0 there in April, but they have been in devastating domestic form this season, particularly on the counter attack away from home. Liverpool are rarely 2/1 to win a home game but the 13/8 available for City to win looks a good price.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - Liverpool's home fixtures average just over 2 goals per game, City's away games average over 5. City have scored a minimum of 2 goals in every domestic fixture this season and have scored 23 in 6 away matches. This game looks to have plenty of goals in it. It's 10/11 for over 2.5 goals and the 27/11 available for over 3.5 goals merits serious consideration.

Both Teams Score - 5 of 6 league games at Anfield this season have seen both teams score. 5 of City's 6 away games in the league have also seen both teams score. Liverpool have only failed to score once in the league at Anfield this season, whilst City have not failed to score in any domestic game. Strongly advise to back the 4/6 available for both teams to score.

Anytime goalscorer - Andy Carroll scored for both Newcastle and Liverpool against City last season. There have been concerns over Carroll's fitness but if he does play he will seriously test City both in open play and at the set-piece. Carroll is currently 5/2 to score anytime. I would check the teamsheet first. Sergio Aguero started on the bench in Naples on Tuesday and saw only 10 minutes action. Aguero is likely to start on Sunday. He has 10 goals in 11 league games, with 4 scored away. The 19/10 currently available for Aguero to score anytime looks good value.

Picks: 6 x singles: City win, over 2.5 goals, over 3.5 goals, both teams score, Carroll anytime (if he starts), Aguero anytime.

Premier League live games 27 Nov: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you want to have a bet on Sunday's games:

Swansea v Aston Villa - the Swans lost at home for the first time this season when Manchester United won 1-0 at the Liberty last week. Villa, yet to win away, have managed 4 draws on their travels but were well beaten at White Hart Lane on Monday night. This game looks like being a tight, low-scoring encounter and I'm not minded to place a bet on a winner either way. The draw offers some value at 5/2 but I advise to hold off.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - there have been 10 goals in Swansea's 6 home games this season. Swansea have conceded only 2 at home and Villa have managed just 6 in 6 on their travels. A price of 5/6 is available for under 2.5 goals and I advise to get involved here.

Both Teams Score - this has only happened once at the Liberty in the Premier League this season. Villa have only kept 1 clean sheet away from home this season and kept no clean sheets away last season. 4 of Villa's 6 away games this season have seen both teams score. It's 4/5 that both teams score and 11/10 that doesn't happen. Another tough call and the advice is to leave it alone.

Picks: 1 single: under 2.5 goals.

Premier League live games 26 Nov: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you want to have a bet on this Saturday's live games:

Arsenal v Fulham - Arsenal are now unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions and have won 5 straight in the Premier League at the Emirates. Fulham have won only once away in the Premier League this season and have never won a game at Arsenal. This is a banker home win with Arsenal rightly favoured at 4/9.

Half time/Full time - Fulham have scored only once in the first half away from home this season. Arsenal are likely to dominate this game from the off and are 11/10 to lead at half time and full time.

Only team to score - Arsenal have conceded twice in their last 5 Premier League home games, Fulham have scored in only 2 of 6 away games. It's 29/20 at William Hill that Arsenal are the only team to score in this game.

Anytime goalscorer - Unibet offer 3/4 that Robin Van Persie continues his outstanding goalscoring form and nets anytime in this game. He's scored 31 times in 29 Premier League games in 2011 and has 7 in his last 4 matches at the Emirates. You should check the teamsheet first though as it is possible Wenger may want to rest Van Persie.

Picks: 4 x singles: Arsenal win, Arsenal HT/FT, Arsenal only team to score, Van Persie anytime (if he starts).

Premier League live games 26 Nov: Betting preview

A few things to consider if you want to have a bet on this Saturday's live games:

Stoke v Blackburn - a few weeks ago this fixture would have been a banker home win but that isn't the case based on current form. Stoke made a good start to the season but have now lost 4 Premier League games on the bounce, including defeats at home to Newcastle and QPR. 19th placed Blackburn have yet to win away this season but have managed to draw 4 of their last 5 on the road. If I had to pick a winner I would lean towards 5/6 favourites Stoke but a decent case could be made for the draw at 11/4 so it's probably best to hold off and look at other factors in this game.

Both Teams Score - Stoke have scored in their last 5 home games in the Premier League, Blackburn in their last 8 away. Both teams have scored in all 6 of Blackburn's away games this season. It's 5/6 at Skybet that both teams score.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - 14 goals have been scored in Stoke's 6 home games, 24 in Blackburn's 6 away. Stoke have only scored 10 goals this season but have played 5 of the top 7 teams. Blackburn have conceded 27. Stoke's last 2 home games have seen 9 goals and there have been 12 in Blackburn's last 2 away. It's 15/16 at Betfair for over 2.5 goals in this game and you might be tempted at the 5/2 on offer at Skybet for over 3.5 goals.

Anytime goalscorer - Jonathan Walters has scored in 4 of his last 5 at the Britannia. Unibet offer 19/10 he scores anytime on Saturday.

Picks: 3 x singles: both teams score, over 2.5 goals and Walters anytime.

Premier League live games 19 Nov: Betting preview

Norwich v Arsenal - after a shaky start to the season Arsenal are now unbeaten in 7 games in all competitions and have moved up to 7th in the league. That run includes away victories at Marseille and Chelsea. Norwich have lost only 1 of their 5 home games in the Premier League but have yet to host a side placed higher than 10th. Norwich have not won in 3 games and drew their last home game against Blackburn following the fortunate award of an injury time penalty. Arsenal are 7/10 favourites to win this game.

Both Teams Score - Norwich have scored in 9 of 11 Premier League games this season, in 4 of 5 at home. Arsenal have scored in 16 of 19 games in all competitions this season and in their last 7 games away from home. No clean sheets in 12 games for Norwich, Arsenal have not kept a clean sheet away in the Premier League since the opening day of the season. It's 4/6 that both teams score.

Under/Over 2.5 Goals - 16 goals have been scored in the 5 Premier League games at Carrow Road this season. 28 goals have been scored in Arsenal's 5 away games. It's 4/6 for over 2.5 goals in this game.

Anytime goalscorer - Robin Van Persie leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with 11 goals this season. He has 29 Premier League goals in 2011, which is also more than anyone else (Rooney next with 19). 11/10 available for Van Persie to score anytime in this game.

Swansea v Manchester United - Swansea are unbeaten at home this season and managed a creditable draw at Anfield last time out. Brendan Rodgers' side have been playing some excellent football and lie in 10th place after a good start to the season. United are unbeaten away from home and will likely pose more problems for Swansea than the 5 previous visitors this season, who were all placed in the bottom half of the table. This is likely to be a tough test for United but with Rooney well rested during the international break, United's superior quality should edge a tight game. United can be backed at 14/25 to win.

Under/Over 2.5 Goals - Swansea have conceded only once at the Liberty in 5 home games this season. Those 5 games have seen a total of just 9 goals. United have conceded 3 goals in 5 away games that have seen a total of 13 goals. United hit 5 at Bolton but have managed only 5 more in their other 4 away games. 13/12 is available for under 2.5 goals.

Picks:

4 x singles on Norwich v Arsenal: Arsenal win, both teams score, over 2.5 goals, Van Persie anytime.

2 x singles on Swansea v Man United: United win, under 2.5 goals.

1 x double: Arsenal and United to win.

Premier League live games 5 Nov: Betting preview

Some things to consider for betting on the live games this Saturday:

Newcastle v Everton - unbeaten Newcastle host an Everton team beaten in 4 of their last 5 league games. Everton were the last team to win at St. James's Park but that victory last season was their only win in 8 trips to Newcastle. 5 of those visits ended in defeat. Newcastle have won 3 of their 5 home games this season, Everton have won 2 of 4 away. Everton might be bolstered by the return of Distin, Neville and Cahill but will be without suspended Fellaini. 13/10 is available at a few firms for a Newcastle win, the draw is around the 9/4 mark with Everton generally 12/5 to win.

Both teams score - this has happened in 6 of the last 8 meetings between the sides at St. James's. Newcastle have scored in all 4 home games since the opening day of the season. Everton have scored in 3 of their 4 away games. Skybet offers 5/6 that both teams score.

Under/Over 2.5 goals - there have been 12 goals in Newcastle's 5 home games this season whilst Everton's 4 away fixtures have seen 11 goals. There have been 23 goals in the last 8 fixtures between the sides at St James's. This makes the 2.5 goals mark a marginal call and the bookies favour under at 8/11, even money for over.

Picks - my tip is the 5/6 that both teams score. I'm inclined to steer clear of other bets on this game. Form indicates a win for Newcastle but if Distin, Neville and Cahill return I think a case could be put forward for Everton to draw, or to repeat last season's win. If both Neville and Distin miss out I would move in on the Newcastle win, both teams score and over 2.5 goals in the game.

QPR v Manchester City - it will be a major surprise if 4/11 City do not win this game. QPR's 1 win from 5 home games was a fortunate victory over 9 man Chelsea. City have won 4 of their 5 away games, dropping points only at Fulham when they drew after leading 2-0.

Handicap - of the 8 away games that City have played in all competitions they have won 5 by 3 or more goals. Bet365 offers even money that City win this game starting with a handicap of -1. City should cover that handicap.

Over 2.5 goals - QPR have scored only 3 at home this season but their 10 games this season have totalled 25 goals, 17 conceded. City are scoring 4 goals per game away from home. 3/5 is available at Betfair for over 2.5 goals. The over 3.5 goals target is also likely to be hit and can be backed at 6/4.

Half Time/Full Time - City have led at half time in 4 of their 5 away games. Only Blackburn have held City at half time in a game City went on to win 4-0. QPR have led at home once at half time. City to win at half time and fulltime is even money at Unibet and Coral.

Anytime goalscorer - Aguero and Dzeko were left on the bench for City's Champions League win at Villarreal. Mancini may bring both back for this game and rest Balotelli. Unibet offers 11/10 Aguero and 6/5 Dzeko to score anytime. Balotelli is 5/4.

Picks - all those featured above: City win, City -1, City HT/FT, over 2.5 goals, over 3.5 goals, Aguero and Dzeko to score anytime (Balotelli if he starts).

Manchester derby: betting preview

Manchester United v Manchester City, 23 October

Both Teams To Score: the last time United failed to score in a home league game was in December 2009 v Aston Villa. November 2004 was the last time City kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford. City have scored on 8 of their last 10 Premier League trips to Old Trafford. This season United have scored 16 goals in 4 home games whilst City have managed 14 in 4 away games. The 3/4 available at Blue Square and 888sport on both teams scoring looks a good price.

Over 2.5 goals in game: 4 of the last 5 fixtures between these sides at Old Trafford have seen 3 or more goals scored. The one that didn't was a 2-0 win for United in 2009. City's games have averaged 4.1 goals this season whilst United's average 3.9. These figures rise to an average of 4.75 goals in City's away games and United's home games. Even taking away the 8-2 result at home to Arsenal, United's home games still average 3 goals per game. Several firms offer 4/5 for over 2.5 goals in the game.

Anytime goalscorer: the bets above assume goals in the game so it makes sense to plump for the leading goalscorer on either side to score at some point. 9 goals Premier League leading scorer Wayne Rooney is now available at 9/5 with Paddy Power. Rooney has scored 6 times for United against City including the last 3 times the sides have met at Old Trafford. Sergio Aguero came back from injury and off the bench to hit City's Champions League winner on Tuesday. He has 8 Premier League goals this season and is a well priced 12/5 at Skybet and Stan James (BetFred have him down at 7/4). If Mario Balotelli gets a start he will be worth a punt after scoring in each of his last 4 starts but he may have to settle for a place on the bench depending on how Mancini plays his hand. Best to wait for Sunday's team sheet before backing Balotelli, he's currently 3/1 with Unibet.

Euro 2012 qualifiers 11 October

Bit of a struggle to find a decent angle to look at in tonight's qualifying matches for Euro 2012. There are several would be banker bets around but many of the sides have little to play for. An accumulator of, say, Turkey, Italy, Norway, Spain, Croatia and Israel only offers you around 2/1. With only Turkey and Croatia having anything more than pride to play for there seems little point in chasing so many teams for such a short price.

A couple of games stick out for over 2.5 goals:

Sweden v Holland: have scored 63 goals between them in 18 games with another 14 conceded giving a total of 77 for an average of 4.27 per game. Of course, playing San Marino has skewed the stats slightly but both sides have scored freely throughout qualifying and the game between them in Holland produced 5 goals. Over 2.5 goals at 21/20 looks a good price.

Germany v Belgium: Belgium visit the free-scoring Germans probably needing to win to qualify for the play-offs given that Turkey play at home v Azerbaijan tonight. The game between Belgium and Germany in Brussels last year produced just the 1 goal but the sides have scored 50 goals between them since that match in 16 games that averaged 4.18 goals. Germany, who scored 3 in Turkey last week and happily thrashed England and Argentina at the World Cup last year, will be ready to exploit any openings the Belgians may leave in their search for the win. 8/15 available for over 2.5 goals.

Pick: Sweden v Holland and Germany v Belgium both games over 2.5 goals: 2 singles and a double.
